You added quite a bit of weight between the hood and the underbody reinforcements. I'd guess at maybe 500lbs. That motor will haul it around just fine, it's just going to be a bit of a pig.
You are way overestimating that. I used approximately 2 4x8 sheets of 16ga (~160lbs) and 48ft of 2x3x1/8 tubing (~185lbs), so a total of 345lbs. Now subtract the weight of the the original floor and frame from front to back and I'd bet that I didn't add much more than 100lbs. And with 290 HP from the stock 4.6 vs 190 HP from the stock 289 I don't think the car will be that much of a pig.

Wow man, those are some nice fab skills. It will be interesting the see the hood all finished and painted up.
Thanks, I wont get a chance to work on it again until May but hopefully I'll have the car mostly finished this summer, at least to the point that I can drive it.

You got a whole lot more done during your spring break than I did during mine! So you're going with IRS?
I put in a lot of hours over the past week. Yeah I'm using the IRS from the Mark viii. I had it bolted up already but I tore the car back down to finish up the frame. The good thing about how I built the car is I can have the drive train and suspension dropped out from under it in less than an hour.
Nice job. You will love the Mod engine. The height will come in handy if you add a Supercharger later. Not sure about the "PIG" comment, I think you will see mileage in the mid to high 20's. "Tit for Tat" I think the weight is going to almost wash out and you will be more like 50 lbs or so within the stock weight (or even closer). This can easily be canceled out by removing like most of the undercoat-seam sealer, stock sound deadener, changing the seats, aluminum rims and so on. Given the increase in power over a 289, well thats not hard to figure out.

Well, I was under the impression that he left the stock floorpans in, and the sheet metal was for bracing. My concern now is that the floor doesn't have enough structural rigidity, being a flat piece rather than a contoured and ribbed piece.

LOL I have four frame rails going through the middle of the car. There are 2 2x3 tubes running through the center and another 2 tucked inside the rocker panels. I don't think there will be a problem with the rigidity on this chassis.
