Default Modify gas tank,or inline fuel pump.

I am having problems deciding what to do. Hopefully I can get some opinions. I am going efi, I have the fuel pump, gas tank from my donor but don't know if I should modify my gas tank to make the fuel pump fit. Or if I should install an inline pump underneath. I have read that you can use one for a 5.0 from a 90 truck. Another thing what are you guys using to make your "new" fuel lines. I am thinking of using some metal tubing. Also what size are you using. They told me 3/8 for the feed line, 5/16 for the return.

I would opt for the inline. Easier to service if there's a problem and you don't want to risk making the fuel tank a source for problems down the road.

I think I would use the 3/8" hard line (stainless) for the feed and 5/16" hard or soft line for the return. I've always thought the less rubber hose the better ......

I just built a tank for mine for use with an in tank pump. The inline pump wouldn't really be any easier to service as it would be under the car and with the intank pump you would just have to pop the trunk and unbolt it. I personally would prefer the in tank pump. It wouldn't be as loud (not that it would matter much) and it would look cleaner than having a pump bolted under the car somewhere. Those size lines are fine that is what I'll be using.

Sure it's a cleaner look, and if I was building a show car to put up on stands and mirrors at the Autorama I'd worry about that too.

But for 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the Tanks Inc setup and a new tank, it works just fine, and it doesn't limit my truck useage.

If you aren't worried about baffles for Auto-x and road course work, then just weld a sump on the bottom of the stock tank, and run the inline pump.
I don't dig having fuel lines inside the trunk. 40 PSI and a pin hole leak in a line or fitting can cause a real problem.
I'm taking an over-the-top aproach with the car in my signature. I've taken the stock tank, cut it open to baffle and sump it. I'm building it to use the stock sender as the return line, and have installed a bulkhead fitting for the feed line. A 255lph Walbro intank pump will set in from the top, and be recessed so the trunk mat will sit correctly.
Steel lines are awesome, but man is it a PITA to do. If you go that way, plan carefully, and take your time. EFI lines run up the opposite side, so it's like a mirror image of a stock V8 line.

You don't have to use the Tanks Inc kit. I'm using the pump assembly from my mark viii donor. I built my own tank but I'm sure you could install the mark viii assembly to a stock tank just as easy the Tanks Inc kit.

I'm doing this same thing right now and while I'm not trying to hijack the thread, would the return line need to be a high pressure line also?
