When I was a teenager, I went for a drive in a car with busted mounts and the hood removed. That'll wake you up. The engine moves a lot more than I would have expected.

ok the driver side is broke, i jacked the car up and nothing happened, the car just went up by itself.

so i opened the hood and look between the hood and the cowl to see if my aircleaner moved when i power break and it jumped a good 3 inches...great

Replace them both, even if you don't think the other one is busted. Do you think you engine can jump around that much without damaging them both? Only one side is jumping up because of torque. The other one is basically being used as an axis.

That's what I thought was the problem. Yes you need to replace both mounts when doing it. Also just get the stock replacments. They will last you a long time.

yeah i picked up stock motor mounts for $12 each at napa today, im going to do what one of the other members suggested and drill a hole though them and put a bolt in so they dont separate...if one gets ruined from drilling then its just another $12 and a learned lesson.

im going to attempt to replace them with the engine in the car, and gently jack each side up at a time with the horizontal bolts taken out so they come off the mounts. i know it probably isnt the right way to do it but i got no engine lift

I would only do one side at a time...jack the engine up from one side with the 2x4 like I described earlier...I think that's the safest way unless you have cherry picker on hand.

MAKE SURE THAT THE JACK IS SECURE!!!!! Also, when replacing the mounts, try not to get your hands where they can get pinched if that thing comes off the jack. Take it from a guy that has 9-1/2 fingers!!!
