BTW, wait until the warden gets wind of the price of ammo these days! Of course, that is if you can find any .45 caliber.

Hey, my whole life is a fake!
Alright guys, so the car was placed on the back burner for a bit. I've been working some serious OT and haven't had time to do much of anything. (I really hate working 36 hour shifts... but thats whole other story.) Anywho, I'm going with the reconditioned Edelbrock, (650 Thunder Series) and was wondering if any of you guys knew if I needed any kickdowns, lift up levelers, fancy make'it fits or anything else. I'm not sure of what all I'm needing to buy with it to be able to bolt on and go. Its going on the original 289 in a '65 coupe. The intake Edelbrock recommends looks like its the Edelbrock performer 2121 intake. Summit had a decent deal on them. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
excellent price, it's manual choke though if that bother's you
I'm currently running the edelbrock 1806 (which is the electric choke version), but otherwise same model.
You will probably need to jet that thing down a lot. I had to. so make sure you buy the tuning kit for that carb as well Edelbrock part 1840. and you might even need to add another rod or two.
from what was said above I absolutely loved those autolites. so a cheap rebuilt 480cfm will do fine. As well I hear when on budget those new summit carbs 600cfm are said to be great value for money. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-M08600VS/
the edelbrock will have less hassle in the long run once tuned right and are nice fro street driven cars. the metering rod tuning is a bit more intuitive (to me at least) then the holley. but it's a matter of tatse. noone can deny the advantage of the edelbrock that there's no gaskets at fuel level and a proper functioning spread bore.

650cfm mechanical secondary annular Quick Fuel. Spendy but you're not going to find another carburetor anywhere with the same adjustability for the money. You can dial every part of the carb specifically to your car....idle system, main, power, emulsion if you want to. Other carbs may or may not work, and if you have a power valve system or an idle system that's not ideal for the car, you can't really do anything about it without modifying the carburetor.

+1 on the Weiand 8124. It is supposed to give more HP than the comparable Performer intake. We just swapped the original intake and Autolite 2bbl out for the Weiand with an Edelbrock 1405. Very pleased. Summit had (has) a combo deal on the intake, and we rebuilt a 1405 we bought on Ebay.

I just got an Edelbrock 1405 for my 302. Haven't installed it yet but I've heard nothing but good things about Edelbrock cards. I can vouch for the attention Holleys require...never again will I own another one.
Most Holleys are never tuned right to begin with, but a properly set up modern Holley architecture carburetor is basically at the top of the heap of carburetion. There's a reason virtually every carbureted race car runs a Holley type carburetor.
