Does it start out in the low side or does it go low after it warms up? My cam bearings were sticking out of the journals when I tore it down, no oil pressure at idle when it would warm up. I needed a rebuild and now Im good.
It starts low and stays low.

Ok, I got a new gauge and Im wondering how you get the sending unit off. I cant seem to fit a wrench in there to get it off. Its hard to see, and Ive tried approaching it from the top and bottom and I cant get a good grip on the nut that connects it to the shaft its on.

That sucks.. Do you have power steering? I do, and ended up breaking the shaft trying to get the extention out.. just try not to do that. if you can pull the pwr steering pump out of the way you may be able to get to it..

Ok I got the old sending unit out, and I put in the mechanical gauge. Lets hope it was just the gauge. Here is the moment of truth. Im going to start her up now. Hopefully I tightened the new gauge on enough and it doesnt leak at the connection.
Im afraid its more than just the gauge. I started her up (First start of the day, first start since yesterday afternoon), and the mechanical gauge read a pressure of 40psi. I got excited for a second cause I was actually getting pressure, but it only stayed at 40psi for about 5 seconds, then it slowly sank down to 0. Then I shut her off, and started her again, and I only got up to about 10psi before it sank back down to 0.

Welcome to my nightmare.. You need to pull that motor apart and see what the problem is. Either way you look at it, you may as well pull it out and put it on a stand to see the problem. Then you could clean up the engine bay. You may only need some new bearings or an oil pump. Get compression test to see how your cylinders are holding up and then work from there.
Your distributor is turning the pump, but as soon as it warms up your pressure goes out the window..... Probably bearings.

Haha. This is what I get for having a 1967 Mustang as my only means of transportation...(besides my other family members cars).
Luckly Im getting a 2001 Explorer to commute to school next year. Hopefully within the next 2 weeks...so at least Ill have something to drive while my Mustang is out of commission.
