And the back end of the explorer is just big enough to put an entire dissasembled engine into.

You can get this thing back running stronger than ever with a couple of buddies,an engine lift and a little cash as long as you dont need to do any machine work.

Dang, I hate to hear about problems like this.

If you're really that low on cash, I don't think you have a choice on the rebuild kit. If you have the tools, the buddies and the time, I'd strongly suggest pulling that puppy and at least doing rings, bearings, timing chain and oil pump. At least it will survive until you find yourself in a better cash position.

Well Im not THAT low on cash, but I dont have a gigantic budget. Id like to keep it under 1K.

I'm guessing here but I had the same problem on my 68 firebird, the main bearings where gone..in pieces.
