I put a 302 in my 65 coupe and I'm trying to figure out the pullys. I'm a Jeep guy so Ford makes little sense to me. I need to run the crank , water pump, and alternator. I verified that the water pump spins clock wise if viewed from the front of the car. I have serpentine pullys but the water pump pully has no ribs. I'm not planning to use a tesioner pully. I want to just tighten it up with the alternator bracket. will this work?

Ford had 2 types of water pumps, standard and reverse rotation. The difference was the direction the impeller spun, standard rotation needs a ribbed pulley and reverse rotation uses the flat pulley for the back side of the belt. Either can be serpentine(serpentine is the belt type, either v or multi-rib, the multi rib being serpentine). You need to use a standard pulley with a standard pump and a reverse pulley with a reverse pump.

My pump is supposed to spin clockwise per the manufacturers instruction. None of those diagrams just show the 3 items I'm connecting (crank, waterpump, Alt). I can't find a ribbed waterpump pully for a reasonable price. I quess my only concern is whether the belt will jump off a pully that has no ribs. I have read that as long as 2 of the 3 pullys have ribs it isn't that big a deal. I'm looking for verification.

A slick pulley is for the back of the belt and turns CCW. "IF" you have a CW pump, you'll have to get a ribbed pulley or risk it slipping and killing the ribs on the belt by flattening them. My donor engine is out of a 91 Crown Vic and has the pulley you need for a CW pump. Use that for a reference.

Hey, my whole life is a fake!
Just make sure the pullies all have the same amount of ribs.

I wouldn't mind going bact to v belt but I can't find a vbelt that Fits my water pump. I have one but the holes are wrong and I don't have a crank pully. I think the Summit one referenced has to few ribs. Can someone take pics of how their alternator is mounts. I have a 289 in my other mustang but this setuo seems to be different.
You're probably just gonna have to pay for a pulley kit from some place like March.
