Question Help with 71 Stang chassis hard parts.......

Hey guys, I'm the new guy here and seeking a little assistance on finding a few chassis hard parts for a friends 71 Stang......I seem to be having a little trouble locating them. Let me explain......

Bare with me as I am somewhat unfamiliar with the technical lingo for Mustang parts as I am a hardcore Camaro guy........On the right side of the car....it looks as if someone hit a pothole the size of a semi truck.....or possibly someone hit a curb at 90mph. The strut rod...it's what it connects to it with the big bushing on the end of it.....it looks like the actual frame of the car cause it's welded directly to the frame.....or at least was at one time. Well, it looks like it got pushed back about 2 to 3" or more and now the right front wheel sits waaaay back farther than it is supposed to. Looks like that is about all that it needs as of now. It may need a radiator support bar....dunno. Still with me? If not, you can clearly see what I'm talking about in the pics below.

Please let me know if there is a part I can buy to replace it cause it would sure be difficult to fab one of these up.

Thanks for any and all help,

~Joe

I don't know if the strut rod support brace is available for 71-73. It would be worth calling NPD, Mustang's Unlimited, Year One or Dynacorn, to see if it is being reproduced.
Otherwise you could cut one out of a donor car and weld it in. I *think* this same strut rod support was used on more than just Mustangs, and up into later years. Possibly the medium size two and four door cars. But I haven't been under one in years to know for sure. If you can't buy one new, it would certainly be worth a "junk yard crawl" to find out.
Good luck!

BTW: Had it not been for the Camaro, Ford might have rested on it's success and never come out with the Boss cars. So it's OK to have a car that isn't quite as cool! (sorry I couldn't resist ) The '69 Camaro was my favorite year.

Scott, shoot man, thanks for the info dood. Those are some good "big" name companies that never crossed my mind. I'll give em a call tomorrow and see what they might have.

As for the Camaro....I know for a fact (like it or not) that all Ford guys have a favorite one year Camaro....I know I one for a Stang. The 69 was my absolute favorite car growing up, but I never had the chance (or money) to own one. 20 years later...here I am with my dream car. Here are a few pix if you wanna check it out.......HERE She sports an LS1 with a T56 six speed and all the gnarly stuff you'd find on a pro-touring setup.

Again, thanks for the info mang, I'll give it a go!!!

Well guys, I called all the businesses listed here in this thread and I cannot find anyone that will sell that strut rod brace/bracket. It is simply not reproduced.

I guess I need to either fabricate one up, or find a trashed out car that I can rob it off of.

Anyone have a junk car laying around? lol

Thanks again guys,

~Joe

No one makes the 71-73 A crossmember, at least not yet. You should get a frame shop to pull that one back to shape and re-weld it to the frame rail. Way less trouble and expense than cutting it out and replacing it. The rest, strut rods, arms, etc., are available new.

Hey Kokamo, give http://www.westcoastclassiccougarinc.com/ a shot. The Cougars for 1971-1973 are the same and if your frame shop can't straighten it out these guys can pull a crossmember for you.
