Differences in Late Model Mustang Wheel Backspacing
I saw a set of Bullit Wheels with tires at a decent price and was curious as to if there was a difference in the backspacing of '02-'04 and after '04. If that is even the cutoff. The tire size on the wheels is P235-55-2R17.
I saw that say '02 wheels had a backspacing of 5.75" so an inch or more adapter would be needed. Is that correct?
The price with tires is too good to not research.

The 05+ wheels have 6.29" backspacing and the 235/55 tires are too tall for the 65-66. I tried to put some on my car and the tire rubbed the front of the fenders when turning. I went with 01 Bullitt wheels (Ford Racing, $95 each at Summit) and 225/45 17 on front with 245/45 17 on the back. Perfect fit (with 1" spacers on front - really needs 1/2", and 2" wider rear-end on back). Better pics at Plain Jane 65 Mustang link below.
I running the 07' GT wheels and had to run a 1.5" in front and a 1" in back. The 235-55x17's are great but I have it so low in the front, I did cut the fenders and have to reweld the lip up almost 2.5". The back has to come down almost 3" to match so I know I got the wrong springs. Need the reverse.

I called and asked what year they came off of and the woman didn't know. She did try to measure backspacing for me though, which was nice.
So P235-55-2R17's are too tall? Oh well, at $500 for the set I thought I could make it work.
Unless they're shod with high end BFG's or Goodyear F1's, that's too much for that set. I see Bullit take-offs all the time on craigslist and ebay for $150-300.

I got mine for $200.. The 235-55's came with the 05-08 cars.. You would have to buy new tires for the front to make them fit correctly. I went with 1.5inch spacers on the front and 1.25 on the rear and then changed the front tire to a 235-45-17 and it fits good. But thats on a 69, not a 66..

They had Pirelli's with a lot of meat on them. Doesn't really matter as they probably won't work out and they are about 2 hours away. Not venturing up the NJ Parkway on a Friday. LOL
I would recommend the smaller fronts like ozarks06 said unless you want to cut the fenders like I did. I cut it off 2" all around and am going to reweld them up 2" above that. A lot of work for tires that I could have gone smaller but my car is so low anyway, it would have to be done.
