Im in the middle of a t-5 conversion on my 65 coupe using modern driveline's cable conversion kit. I'm using a late model bell, flywheel and clutch. My problem is the clutch fork is all the way back in the bell and not 2/3 back like in the instructions. I' ve tried 2 different clucth set-ups , one being a stock replacement and the a king cobra, with no change. When I contacted Modern Driveline they told me I either have the wrong clutch , the release bearing is installed wrong or the pivot ball is too tall. The pivot ball im using appears to be stock. Is it possible that its too tall? Has anyone ever ran into this problem or heard of this?

Chances are the pivot ball is not the issue. Mine worked fine at the stock height. I am also using the king cobra clutch.
SO with the cable disconnected when you push on the clutch fork it moved back all the way until it hits the case of the trans?
If so the only possible explanation I can think of right now would be the throw out bearing is not installed, fell off, or the like. Did you install the bearing secure in the locking tabs at the end of the clutch fork?

what happens if you pull forward on the fork....Im getting the picture the fork is just flopping back and forth with no resistance at all in either directions...Correct?
If you have the dust cover on remove it so you can look into the trans and see the end of the fork...You need to positively verify the existence of the throwout bearing.
Look down the shift fork and look to see if the throwout bearing is connected to the end of the fork and has the slide tube going through the middle of it.
Take a photo and post that as well perhaps we can then spot the problem child.

Thats what I was thinking. I dont know why it says the fork has to be 2/3 back and not all the way in the instructions. As long as the clutch fully engages and disengages.
If you pull the fork to the front of the trans by hand and it stops with about 1" gap behind it and about 3" in front of it...you should not worry especially if it appears its working right.
Now the trick is to set the preload...have you done this?
