Is there a trick to align the hood and doors or is it just a slow trip to insanity trying to make it look right freehand? A previous owner took them all off and then just slapped them back on. They are real bad! My driver side window will contact the door frame sometimes when closing!!!
I've spent well over an hour trying to align the hood, getting it really nice when closed, but then it gets messed up when I open it to tighten the bolts. I've ordered all new bumpers and rubber for the hood (mine are ALL crushed, missing or dust) and am thinking that I'll put them on, shim the edges with the hood closed, lift the front end of the car and then tighten the bolts from under the car.(with the motor still in... it's an easier fit than wire repair inside the dash..hehe)
It should work, enough room to get the tools up there if I really stretch..
But what about the doors? Put in all new rubber and weather-stripping first, leave the bolts mostly tightened and just bump it into position, then tighten them up the rest of the way?
Is there any tricks that body shops or anyone else knows of that would help? (besides buying a door Hanging dolly/lifts? Can you rent them?) any way to shim it and lock the position in order to open and tighten the door hinge bolts? Any of the inexpensive BodyShop door alignment tools that actually work?($25-$50 ones?)
Anyone thinking of removing them... Mark the hinge position before taking them off!
Thanks for all suggestions!
