I have a 72 Convertible with a 2 barrel 302. Was wondering if anyone has switched the 302 to the 4 barrel? I know I need to remove it and see if it has just the plate then I can smack the four on, but wondering if anyone has been in there already and knows so I can save the work and buy a new intake if needed.
Thanks!

No, you'll need to install a 4V intake manifold. Don't get crazy with the carb, a 500 cfm will work perfectly for you, on a stock 2V engine. Have the distributor re-timed, it is no doubt out of spec, and you'll want more aggressive timing than the 2V anyway.
i had a very mildly cammed 302 with the WORST heads possible on them (E6SE) and a crappy ford aluminum 4bbl intake from a early 80's GT (with tiny runners the about the size of a 255), along with factory exhaust manifolds,a Y pipe, and single exhaust......
took a holley 600 (factory carb from ford) off a 351w in a van that had just came into a local junkyard and bolted it on that 302. it ran PERFECT without having to adjust anything but the idle speed and the car would destroy the tires off the line. didn't smoke, didn't load up while idling in gear, no dead spots when accelerating, etc etc.
if thats not proof positive, i don't know what is.
I went through the calculator, and it gives a choice of 390 or 570 cfm, which is a pretty big split. Your mistake was telling it you had a 6000 rpm redline. The stock cam starts to wheeze around 4500, and by 5000 it's done.
Just did this swap recently. The Edelbrock 600cfm is better than we hoped for. Here are some threads you might want to check out. You can also search for others.
