I remember one of the members here had just gotten his car painted and some little butt monkey threw a full cup of cola on the hood and it totaly discolored it.. He's around somewhere.
I really hope that I can get it cut down with the 2000 grit paper and then polish it out. It just really sucks. After that Im going to wax the crap out of her.

One day, a large sea gull or pelican dropped a bomb on my hood that was bigger than a coffee saucer. It was in the hot sun drying away for hours before I saw my car.
It took a long time with hot water and gentle coaxing but it came off. There's a little wax on my paint from the car wash, and it made the difference.
You should think about color sanding the spot if the scratches are really bad, shoot some clear there and polish. It will come back (your nice paint job, that is). Good luck.

Your 69 looks really hot. I have thought of cloning it for the next version of my car (there have been several). Since you aren't in LA, this would be OK. I'm already used to dusting the car every day, so black paint doesn't faze me.
If you're like me, the scratches will bug you until you take care of it (like a parking ticket). Once you deal with it, you will instantly feel better.
Also, put a whole chicken on the rotisserie one day soon, and while it's cooking imagine it was one of the birds that screwed with your car. That should also help.

Wow. Thanks for the compliment Carlos. (the color is Metropolitan gray, 2009 mazda color) I might cook me a bird tonight!
I think its crazy that Im already thinking about what to make the car into next. I still want to go with the sinful cinnamon color and black one of these days. And maybe some side scoops at that point and a shelby tail. The kids are going to get this car in about 11 years so I will probably just let them pick a color and we can re-work the body to fit what they like at that time.

I think your car looks awesome like it is. I was going to choose it for ROTM. I like the color and the side pipes.
So I was lazy and I paid for it. I parked my car under a tree two mondays ago just after a nice bath on Sunday. Some birds crapped on my hood, I tried to get it off with some spray cleaner and a rag, but didnt have much time so I just left it and let it be for two weeks. Yesterday I washed my car. the crap came off, but after drying the car I noticed a silver dollar sized pitted area right in the gloss black front middle part of my hood. And another two quarter sized spots that look just like it. I tried to polish it down with some mguires scratch remover, but that just make it a shiny pitted spot.
LESSON OF THE DAY! DONT LEAVE BIRD CRAP ON YOUR CAR!!
I might try to take some 2000 grit to it with my rubber block and then polish it again, but Im afraid because its right in the middle of my gloss black hood.
Any suggestions? I could just repaint the whole hood. Not that I want to.
That sucks about your paint. I have usually been able to get the paint to look good again by using a cleaner wax like zymol. Seeing as how you already tried the Megs scratch X, I guess it really did eat it up pretty bad.
