I just picked up my '67 last week. Great car, but I'm definitely looking to convert the stock single exhaust to duel. I'm planning on getting a nice set of long tube headers running back to some flowmaster 40's. I know many people dont like the sound of flowmaster's but I think they sound pretty mean.
So my questions is this: I'm planning to do an auto to T5 manual conversion in the next couple months. I read somewhere that some long tube headers wont be compatible with the T5 trans. Can anyone confirm this? If so, does anyone know of some good headers that WILL work with a T5?
Here's a couple pictures of the new ride for your viewing pleasures. She's a clean, rust free ride. Nearly all stock with a 289. Paid a fair price at 6k.
Thanks for the help

Nice ride. The headers will only be a problem if you also convert to a cable clutch. The stock clutch linkage works perfectly with most headers. There is a special header for cable clutch Mustangs. I prefer the stock clutch on early Mustangs. Strong, reliable, easy to service and get parts for.
Oh, and good luck with the flowies. I worked on a number of cars with them this summer, and the test drive was enough. Living with them would be annoying, for me. I was young once, though, and had Casler tuned full length headers and glasspacks.
Our '66 has a 289 with Mac longtubes and a T-5 conversion with no problems. As mentioned above, you can't use the clutch cable conversion with most of the longtubes though. The headers come down in front of the hole where the cable goes through the bell housing so it's blocked up.
On edit, here's a pix under the car so you can see how things fit...and we do have an H-Pipe with Flowies installed.
I have a cable operated clutch on mine from Modern Driveline. I also have JBA mid length headers. Like the others have said, this is really your only obstacle with the headers.
6 grand is a fair price for it. as 2+2 says no problem if you don't use a cable operated clutch. I have long tubes as well on mine. I stayed with the original bellhousing so it could never have been a problem

I love the red on red. My first car was like that. Very nice ride, congratulations. I would drive the car for a little bit before you start making changes. One thing I wanted to improve was the handling of my car. I converted to a rack and pinion to help accomplish this. If you think that is something you want to do, I would make sure that the rack you choose will work with the long headers and clutch configuration. I switched an auto car to a T5 and a Unisteer rack. I am using Headman shorties with a modification on the driver side to clear the clutch cable. I recommend the clutch rod bearing mod too.
I live in the Queen Creek area. Send me a private message if you have any questions or would like pictures before you start modifying. BTW, I haven't driven the car yet so I can't attest to the improvement over stock.
