sill plate installation problem

I bought new sill plates and the screw holes for the screws that go through the carpet and into the body do not line up. Has anyone had any issues with this? There are slits that the screws fit into on the body but they are too close to the door. I started damaging the plate when I tried to install them.

I have found that the new door sill plates usually require some persuasion to fit.

As do most repro pieces. I hate that. I wish they would fit better. Overlay the two plates and see how far they are off, maybe it can be rigged somehow.

That's about the only solution I know of, unless you drill new holes in the car to align the new sill plate. Either way, it is a sucky job. I always hate drilling or cutting on my car to make something fit. Why can't they make stuff to align up?

Are you sure that your body guy didnt cover your old holes?

My holes lined up just fine on both sides. Are you sure you have the sills with the correct side pointing out towards the door?

You shouldn't have to drill new holes. I meant that you may have to try to form the sill plate a little so that it will fit.

I don't know your sill plates and it shouldn't matter, but are the holes identical? Is it possible there is a left sill plate and a right sill plate and the holes will not line up if they are not on the correct side of the car (I don't know why this would be, but maybe some over-sized/undersized, specialty plate or something?) It wouldn't hurt to try each plate on both sides of the car...
Do they make them for different years and they may be for modern Mustangs?
just tossing some possibilities out there.

I guess we should have established which sill plates you have. Do you have reproduction OEM style ones, or the lighted ones, or some other universal type?

I bought the cheap aluminum sill plates from Mustangs Unlimited. They both are identical and match the ones I took off the car.
