Thanks for the great advise!!! I think I've learned so far that Ford Windsor series small block motors were externally balanced and 'round about the early 80s they moved from a 28oz flywheel to a 50oz one. I've also learned that the 6-cylinder 250s (the original motor in this car) were internally balanced with an imbalanced (0oz) flywheel, so if he had moved it over to the new motor that would have been a no-no for sure.
I haven't pulled the motor just yet, so the errant flywheel is still a question mark... IF the flywheel is not the issue, are there other possibilities besides the flywheel to look at based on the symptoms I described?
