Default Door Handles R&R 66 Mustang

I am trying to remove the door handles from my 66 Mustang and am having a hard time reaching them and seeing the bolts that need to be removed. Does anyone know what size wrench is needed to remove the nut holding the retaining bolt on the inside of the door that holds the handle. Are there any helpful hints or suggestions.

I don't remember the size. I just started fitting sockets until I found the right one. Basically, if you get in just the right position you can see the assembly, or you can reach in and feel it...but you can't do both at the same time. that's what makes it a challenge. There also are clips which attach to the rods which you will have to pop off. I used a screw driver for that.

IIRC, it's 3/8", but don't bet on it.

BTW, I love the signature. They probably saved under $20 per car by not galvanizing the undercarriage. Of course, by the time cars were 5 years old in those days, high school kids were buying them for $300, because cars with over 75k miles were considered worn out junk. The warranty was 12/12 (3/3 on K codes). I once asked a Ford engineer, who helped build the car, and this was what he told me. When I asked him why, he told me to multiply $1 per car times 1,000,000 cars. Oops. Ford really did count things that close.
