Default 1966 Convertible frame picture

Hey guys,

Well, first time posting, I am looking at buying a 66 convertible but it has some frame issues. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find, or if anyone has one readily available, a picture of the frame off of a 1966 convertible. I have searched the net but no luck.

Thanks for any help!

what, exactly, are you looking for? the mustang doesn't have a frame per se. it has two smaller sub frames that weld to the unibody.

Specifically, I am looking for the front end. I am looking at buying the vehicle but the previous owner cut a section of the frame (from under passenger seat to seat passenger front shock tower) and I am curious as to what I am dealing with. I wanted to see a picture of a frame just so I could visualize what exactly he cut out. I am a visual learner!

Well first off, the car has no true frame, it is called a unibody car meaning the whole body, floor pans, front shock towers, etc are all tied together to form one structure.

Check out this restoration of a '70 Mustang coupe http://mustangforums.com/forum/class...g-opening.html
Although a '66 convertible will be a little different, it'll give you basic idead of how the frames are in these cars.

OK, I think I get it now...sorry for being slow, I am new to mustangs and domestics for that matter. Basically, the car I am looking at appears to have what I guess would be the passenger frame rail running from under passenger's feet to bottom of shock tower cut out. Owner then moved vehicle without bracing and it twisted.

Guess my issue is how big of an issue would be to fix this? I assume you can buy replacement parts for the frame then have professional replace and make sure all is straight?

Any help is appeciated. Thanks all for replies!

Every single part shown in the image I posted is available.

A lot depends on how badly twisted it is, and your level of skill. Far worse than anything you describe has been fixed on these cars, though.

I would definitally have a professional do the work for me...I want a solid base and I do not have the skills...so based on your comments, it just comes down to price?

Thanks for the help.

A frame shop can help you if your local auto body shop doesn't have the set-up to adjust your frame properly. Call around. K Nelson's Welding Inc. (902-465-1175) in Halifax might be a good start if you're near there.
