I know that the roller 302 motors run a different type of radiator than the 289. My question is CAN you run the 302 roller motor with the original 289 radiator?

the 302 waterpump will have the input on driver side. the 289 on passenger side. means that the 289 is probably both hose connectors on passenger side which probably will nmot fit. a solution is what superhoss says, but instead of flushing an old rad i'd rather geta new one to match the waterpump that's already on it ...

My 302 has the inlet and outlet on the passenger side. If the 289 radiator is clean and a three row radiator I don't see why you couldn't use it if the hoses line up. They are the same blocks.
An original radiator? I wouldn't, especially on a '66. 65-66 2-row radiators were barely adequate for the stock motor. A wider 3-row is best (you can fit one in with a little modification), but even a replacement 3-row would be better.

Even in stalled traffic in August at over 100° my 66 did not overheat. Until I had it rebuilt, then I had to switch to a 3-row radiator. 2-row radiators for these cars are almost impossible to find, now.
The stock 65-69 water pump is the perfect solution for the 5.0 in a 66. Of course, if you have the full 70-up setup on the engine, you could get the "5.0 conversion" radiator, which has the lower outlet on the other side.
Thanks for the help guys. In response to the radiator question, I do have an aftermarket aluminum radiator with an electric fan. I was thinking about moving up to a roller block and have it stroked out.
With my roller motor, I installed the 92 serpentine setup ... including all accessories.
Easy fix for the radiator issue was to use a 67-68 big block radiator.
Fits perfect
Looks "stock"
Cheap and easy to find from any aftermarket mustang parts supplier.
... upper and lower radiator hoses are another topic ...
(can't find that post right ths moment)
