. This is the first I have really gotten into why I can't use "the good stuff".
I do think I will be getting "the good stuff" on a trip, even if I had to take the car out of the area to work on it....
BTW, You can still buy the solvents (acetone, Lacquer thinners, xylene, etc) all full strength, just not products that contain them, doesn't make sense.
This is what happens when you put an action movie star in the governor's office. Paint is illegal an Marijuana is legal! NUTS!

20 years late getting my dream car, but my son driving it to his high school is just as wonderful!
They have crap and they have good stuff. Their Crossfire paint is more on the fleet coating side of things. We supply Vortex waterborne and Finish1 to quite a few body shops in the area and they seem to think it works fine. It's not House of Kolor or anything, but it's a good body-shop quality paint. And since the new laws went into place, it's one of the few options out there.

Maybe the last one leaving California should turn off the lights. Beautiful state, but who wants every area of their life micromanaged by incompetent enviro-wackos and junk science? That's why things cost so much in CA (like housing!). Oh well, since CA leads the nation, it's only a matter of time for the rest of us. Who'd ever guess there might be a black market in epoxy primer.
Primer isn't illegal and most don't have inspections
I paid $64 for 1 gallon of epoxy/2k primer and activator last month.
no inspections for cars 30 yrs and older here in NC, no emissions inspections for '92 and older. we just moved to a sticker-less inspection system which is kind of nice (but costs more). nothing on the windshield anymore.
what primer did you get? a lot of guys seem to like SPI.
Followed up on this with the SPI manufacturer and asked him to email me this information: http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/Pricing%20Info.htm
Hi Ron,
That rumor has been going around since 2003, yes epoxy is legal but must be a 2:1 VOC and ours is.
We can ship you direct from factory in GA and a gallon of white, Gray or Black epoxy with the gallon of activator is $145 for the two gallon Kit (mixes 1:1) no shipping charges of course.

In the central portion of Calif. the Air Resource Board banned certain Epoxy primers (and paints) with certain VOC content levels, last January. As of the start of Oct. the rest of Calif. was required to meet the same standards. So a lot of companies have had to switch to lower VOC primers, paints and clears. I use a lot of PPG stuff and I bought some extra DP primer just for my present (70FB) and future projects last Dec. Most base coats now are water base.
