Hey all, haven't been on here for a while but finally back to work on the old clunkers. I'm actually working on a '71 F100 but have a Mustang question that will help with my truck.
I had to cut off a couple of the axle retainer bolts on the rear-end of my truck (9" )and need replacement bolts. The only place I can find the bolts is from CJ Pony Parts, the problem is they don't list the sizes and they didn't know if the items they sell are 3/8" or 1/2" bolts, they only sell them by year. ie a kit for a 67-68 mustang or 69-73 mustang. My '68 Mustang is no help... it has the 1/2" bolts and big bearings but it does not have the stock rear installed and I'm not sure what it came out of... Can anyone out there tell me if either the 67-68 or 69-73 Mustang would have had the big bearing flange and 1/2" axle retainer bolts? Or direct me to somewhere else that sells these oddball bolts?

Hey, I'm new to the site !
If its a 28 spline small type, then I believe its a 3/8 fine thread. If its a 31 spline large type, then its a 1/2 fine thread.
Yea, I've got that website bookmarked and reference it all the time, in this case however it doesn't have the specific info I need. I already know what I need - I need the 1/2" bolts. I was trying to find out what year mustangs would have the 1/2" bolts stock so I can order some.
I may have misspoken about big bearing/small bearing, I was actually referring to the housing ends/backing plate flange size.
All the rears I have taken apart have used 9/16 sockets on the nuts which would make the bolt a 3/8. I can't imagaine anything using a 1/2 bolt that would make the nut size 3/4. that is crazy big.

The 'big bearing' 9 inch uses bigger bolts around the bearing retainer. I thought the same as you did until last summer when my 9/16 socket wouldn't fit
Well, I was never able to confirm what Mustangs would have the 1/2" bolts but I found the 1/2" bolts that I need at Jeff's Bronco Graveyard (http://broncograveyard.com/)
