Ok I think I have this down just need to be 100%. The engine shop is tearing into my engine rebuild but they hit a road block, the fly i brought 50oz. This is a 79 351w with a '90 T5.
- ALL 351w where 28oz, and 289 where too UNTIL ~1980 when they changed to 50oz. Correct?
- I need a 157 tooth because a 164 will not physically will inside of the bell, or so I've heard. Correct?
Summary: Will a 157 tooth 28oz work for a '79-80 351 with '90 T5?
Thank guys.

I've got a 79 351w myself in our 67. Yeah you'll need a 28oz flywheel. I ditched the original housing for a Lakewood housing and went the 164 tooth myself with a 4-speed toploader. Cant comment in regards to the T5.
What size clutch are you using?
Are you converting over to a roller setup?

I do not know what size clutch. I have a setup that came with the T5 supposedly with only a few hundred miles on it.
Haven't planned on going roller, but seeing as this project will be slow going over the next or so I defiantly have time to keep my options open.
Highly suggest going with the roller setup. The 2 small holes in the block valley had me worried until I actually grabbed the drill. Buy a new proper sized bit and a set of bit depth rings to ensure you drill the exact depth and no deeper. Use a tap to thread the 2 holes and your done. Took me about 10 minutes. Don't forget to tape off the entire valley except for the areas to be drilled. I also used a shop vac on the area while I was drilling. Kept it all very clean.

About 81-82, the 50 oz was used for the 5.0, but I'm not sure about the 5.8
I do know that I got the wrong one and had to have it fixed, so be careful.
