The only thing confusing about this thread is when people post to a thread without fully reading the problem and offer suggestions that don't pertain to the problem further confusing it for others that don't read the thread fully before posting.

Case in point was several people posted I need to use a compressor to get out the spring and don't take the spring out with out one when that wasn't even the problem.

The problem was getting the shock out so I could get the spring out, I may be slow at times, but I'm not a dumb ass to try it without one.

Talking through a problem, even when it isn't the correct solution will often lead you or another reader to a successful solution. (I would hope)
I understood your problem and my first thought was an outside spring compressor. Not to remove the spring. Just to get it out of the way. You tried the spring compressor, the way I would have tried... It wasn't the solution. Next...

How true.
I had the out side spring compressor but I couldn't use it because the shock was in the way when trying to maneuver it to get on the spring. Now that the shock is out it went right on.

I got the springs out finally as well as most of the suspension. I just got to get off the upper and lower control arms now.
Thanks for all the help.

I fully read your problem and do not see where you mentioned you tried a spring compressor. I mentioned it because the last time I used an outside spring compressor there was no way possible the shock could be in the way.
Glad you got it solved.

I only mentioned it because I have seen those springs come flying out (without the shock in place) and shoot clear across the shop and bounce off the door. Didn't hit anything but could have done some serious damage if they had.

Are you really going to post on here with a problem that you have gotten in over your head on and then complain about the suggestions you are given? It is the basic problem with forums, the people that know everything want to talk and the people that don’t know anything want talk too. You end up with good ideas and bad ideas and you have to sort through them. It would have been better if you had done your research prior to disassembly but since you didn’t do that you ended up in a dangerous situation. Yes, working on a front end with a loaded coil spring is very dangerous. Sometimes that work is better left to those who know what they are doing without logging on to a forum.

+1

I have been able to research just about every project for my car on this (and other great forums) online and gather enough information to decide whether to do the project myself or, pay someone else to do it. And, I always thank folks for the knowledge and experience they share with total strangers.

Be sure to let us know if you manage to knock out whatever teeth you have left while reinstalling those nasty old springs.
