seatbelts? my car never had seatbelts, or so I thought. I though 1967 1/2+ had to have them, mine was manufactured in '66. i've never seen any studs in the floor to bolt them too either.
here's the pics of said leak, tell me what you guys think:
1) Front seat belts were required by federal law on 1965 vehicles, regardless of the date of build. All seats required starting with 1966 models. Sombody threw yours away, Ford could not legally sell the car without them.
2) You have the wrong driveshaft. There is WAY too much shank exposed on your slip yoke, at least an inch too much.

I'm pretty sure it was not 65. Mine came stock without front seatbelts. They were on the rear seats though. I know no one took them out to. So the year is wrong. PO added seatbelts to the front on mine.

Anybody have any idea why there would be a different drive shaft in it? it's only a 200ci so i doubt they twisted it or anything. the rear end is stock 4 lug non-posi as far as I know.
I just learned a nasty little lesson. safely glasses are good when working underneath. a little rust chip went in my eye,,,,yay for lessons learned the hard way. i put on my safety glasses now.
on, and should the flat black part of the bottom of my trans has a liberal coating of oil/red fluid (hoping it's not trans fluid) on it?
oh, yay. another problem. i have 3 of the 4 nuts off the bolts underneath the car to get the drivers seat out. except the 4th one wont come out because the bilt spins WITH the nut. what do I do????

Just wait until about 4am tonight...hopefully you got all the metal out.
The black part of the trans is the pan....it could be leaking from the gasket or the oil could have run off the tail shaft and collected on the pan...fix tail shaft first then see if it continues to leak....and yeah there does look like a very excessive amount of drive shaft slip yoke (shank) exposed...I have no idea why but there should only be .750 to .950 exposed...
