Default Repro 67 body panels: Who's used them?

I know that repro panels should be avoided whenever possible but which ones fit the worst? I am going to need both front fenders, door skins, deck lid, and some quarter patch panels for my fastback project and am not sure if I will be able to find originals that are in good enough shape. What's everyones opinion on the available stuff?

The best bet is if you can find some nice rust free original parts form some one locally or if you go to a big swap meet and look for some there.

I need another fender for the '65, I'm thinking OE tooling or find a nice one locally or at the Fords at Carlisle car show in PA next year.

the ford tooling fenders fit the same as the originals. the non-ford tooling fenders are like 3/16" shorter and fit like crap. been there, done that.

i can't say for the fastback but for the coupe quarter patch panels seem to be ok. the full quarters on my coupe needed quite a bit of work to fit properly. if i had a choice i'd use skins. my coupe was hit from the back and the quarters had rusted out where the extensions attach. didn't leave me with much of a choice.

i replaced my trunk but it's totally different from the fastback trunk. fwiw, it fit fine. the fastback trunk is so small i'd think it would fit ok.

I don't have any experience with the fenders and door panels because mine were in good shape with just a few small areas that needed patched, but I did replace the quarters using the full skins and I had no problems with the fit. I've heard a lot of complaints about them on forums about being too big or not lining up correctly buy I would almost guarantee that 98% of there problems were "user" error.

You cant just cut the old quarter off and slap on a skin and expect it to fit like a glove, you gotta do a little bit a work. One of the big things I've seen with people having trouble with the skins is the c scoop area for 67-68's. You have to make "relief" cuts in the corners on the flange that wraps into the door opening so you can bend the panel where it needs to go. I think that's where most people complain about the fit.

I know of one story where the person said they had to cut almost a 1/2" off the bottom of the skin because it was too long. It seemed that way when I first held the skin up to my car too but I realized what the real problem was before I started cutting up the skin.

I got two rear panels and a door skin from the paddock out of knightstown in indiana. They look great on the car. You can check out their site. www.paddockparts.com
