Default Heater hoses and thermostat HELP.

I just put in my new heater. Before I hooked it up the new thermostat was working fine. I had the hose looped from the water pump to the manifold. Opening and staying at 160. I hooked it all up and now the therm is not opening. The temp got to 210 and I shut it off. Do I have the hoses backwards. I put the top hose from the heater core to the water pump and the bottom hose from the core to the manifold.

I tried to find pics of the hoses, but it seems everyone takes the picture of the driver's side of the engine.

Jeff

I figured it out. The top hose goes to the mani the bottom to the pump. Working like a champ now.

Actully that is backwards, you had it right the first time. It is only a heater core, it will not make that much difference.

The direction of the flow is important.

Actually, it does matter. If the flow is backward, sediment and air can be trapped in the heater. You are correct, however, he had it right the first time.

Direction should also not make a difference in the thermostat opening and closing.

I don't think direction is what made the difference. Probably got an air pocket in it.

Thanks for the replies and the chart. I think you are right about the air pocket. When I put fluid back in it took ALOT more than I took out. I will change it back the other way.

Thanks again, Jeff
