Default voltage regulator

Hello, i ordered a voltage regulator for my ford mustang 1966 without a/c and they delivered me a c5af-10316-a. In my car is currently installed a c5tf-10316-a. Some internet sites say that the c5af is for a early 1965 car and that the c5tf is for a 1965-1967 with a/c. But other sites say something different, like that the c5af is the correct one for my car. And other sites say i need the c5af-10316-b. Who has expierence with voltage regulator. Are they interchangeable? which one do i really need?

Thanks.

I don't know about the parts numbers. The AC part doesn't bother me, it's the year. An early 65 would be a generator with different wiring. You could always get a modern solid state regulator (transistor/computer chip) that would be more reliable than the mechanical one. These should be available from any autoparts store.
At the very least I would call around to some Mustang ONLY Suppliers and see what they would offer for your car, then use it or return it based on the results.

OK, the easy way to tell is the 3rd digit. Generally, a C5DF-10316-A would be originally engineered for a Falcon (D), and would be light duty. A C5AF-10316-A would be for a full-size Ford (A), and would be a higher service rating. Last, a C5TF-10316-A would be a a truck item, and would be seen with air conditioning, performance engine, etc. Of course, if you are talking about reproductions, they are all internally identical heavy-duty units, only the markings and case color change.
