65 Convertible Build
OK, I have mentioned several details on this car in a couple of different threads. I decided to make my own build thread... even though it will take me years to get this project complete....
Background... My father in law bought this car in the mid 70's, put a new engine (302 Flat Tappet Cam) in it, had it completed in about 1980. It was used as week end driver for about 2 decades. Around 1996 timeframe, my sister in law bought the car, she used it as a daily driver, had the engine rebuilt about 8 years ago, I estimate it has 90,000 miles on that engine.
In may 2010, I bought the car for my wife as a mothers day gift. However it needs to be completely rebuilt... The car was in running condition when we got it. However it has had hard life in the past 10 years. Basically, my Sister in law was taken advantage of by many mechanics... The more I dig into this car, the more things I find...
This is were we began in May Last year...
After driving the car for a year or so, I decided that the first thing I want to do is get a more reliable engine in it...
My Son who just turned 13 is turning most of the wrenchs....Learning alot and having fun.
The engine was dropped off to my engine builder, who has a 6 week back log... anyway, he finally got around to ours...
I decide to build a 2000 Explorer Roller Cam block with Heads from a Fuel Injected Car. I am hoping to get a solid running Roller Cam Engine that externally looks like a 65 289, yes, I know its red, the car is red interior an white ext. The thought of putting the Stock Black color really doesnt appeal to me. All that work, just to paint it black and hide it in a black engine compartment.... NOPE.
The heads should get installed today.... More details to follow

About a week ago I dropped alot of stuff to the local Powder Coater... Air Cleaner, Pulleys, Brackets, Hood Hinges, etc. Will post photos of them when I get a chance.
I just learned the Original Intake manifold is just about shot... It will most likely work, but it might not seal correctly... My Engine Builder has found me an originaly 4 Barrel Intake for a 70's 302 engine... Which I will most likely go with...
Now for the question,,, should I put back the stock 2 Barrel Carb on it (Which is about 2 years) ... Which from what I am reading puts out about 450 CFM. Or should I update to a 500,550 CFM???
What to do.

Because I can.... Its our Car... Thats the great thing about building your own car... you do what you want...
NOT WHAT THE FACTORY OR ANYONE ELSE WANTS...
I have seen to many 65 Mustangs just like yours... """ **** IMO In my opinion****"""", the engine gets lost in the engine bay.. but its your car and you like it. Thats what matters.
For the record: I do not think its Chevy Orange.... The reason is because the builder has an original 1965 Corvette with an Original 396 Numbers matching car... The engine is right next to mine in the assembly room... The colors are different. His is more orange... Mine is more red than his... I will see if I can get a side by side photo.
When its completed, I will post more photos...
