New with 93 GT conv.
Just bought the '93 Mustang GT the other day. Didn't know the car was so noisy. For one, the car's engine sounds like it's right there beside me in the front seat. I can hear every noise outside the car with the windows and top closed of course. Are these cars supposed to sound this way? I hear wind noise (a LOT) when I am driving 40 mph and above. Tell me that these cars don't always sound this way. My weatherstripping looks ok for the most parts. How can I decrease some of my noise in the cabin of the car. Please help.

Welcome to the world of Convertibles and welcome to the board. First, make sure the quarter windows are rolled up all the way and the door windows meet the moldings on the quarters. Next, make sure the top is pulled down tight at the windshield. Do the door windows meet the top seals? I had a new top put on last year, and believe it or not, it was quieter with old top. I dont know what to tell you about the engine noise, how is it running? What kind of exhaust does it have, dumps maybe? You could have Flows or SLPs, and with dumps, you will hear them all the time.

Are you missing your convertible top headliner. My 92 GT Conv. didn't have one when I bought it. Don't know if it came with one or ifit was taken out by the previous owner but these can be purchsed and may help. I have seen it in some fox body convertibles at car show.I'm thinking about getting one. Does anyone else here have a headliner for their convertible especially fox bodies and what do they think about them? Thanks, 93FHPSSP.

Yes, I've seen them on ebay too. When I got the new top on he said I was missing mine but I didn't think it had one. He had one but I didn't get it at that time and wish I did. I can't remember what the price was.

You can get them for like $150 (50resto), and they reallly help with the looks. They help some with the noise wich is good, but it's not going to make it sounds like you are riding in a SN-197 vert, which are disterbingly quite. When the windows are up and the top closed, look for any gaps that could be letting air, and thus noise, in. As for the engine sounds, this is another problem with 5.0's, or any car people mod really. You can decrease it by taking the interior out and lining the floor of the car with dyno-matt or the cheaper stuff which works just as good. We did this to a buddy of mines and it was a dramatic difference, but that was a coupe, so I don;t know the differece in a vert. when I finally get enough time to do it to my car I will tell you how it turns out.

Thanks guys for the info. My car does have the headliner in it as I can tell. Maybe I need to ride in another Mustang Vert and listen for any differences. I have Flowmaster exhaust which isn't a problem with sound. I can just get used to the road noise I guess.

I'm pretty sure the headliner only cameon '93 and later verts.
As for the noise, maybe upgrading the stereo system is the way to go. Worked for me on 2 ragtops so far - and a '65 coupe!
