Default Trunk capacity

Hi

I'm touring the west coast next week on vacation from the UK and i'm looking to rent a Mustang convertible but I'm unsure about the trunk space. The spec says 13.1 cubic feet but can anybody give me the exact dimensions of the width, depth and height so I can decide what size luggage it can accommodate?

Cheers.

Damon

Forget the 13.1 ft^3. that might apply if you could fill the trunk with water. I have an 06 convertible and I think a small part of the space is taken by the wellthat the top folds into. The top to bottomdimension might be a few inches more in a coupe. Anyway, the usable trunk dimensions (imagine a rectangular box)are 42" side to side,12" top to bottom, and 16" front to back. There are irregular shaped spaces on either side of the 42" dim. and in front of the 16" dim. You could stuff these with small duffels or plastic bags. The entrance opening is 27" wide x 14" front to back. I could comfortably fit two pieces of luggage in the trunk. One measured 28" H x 19" W x 13" DP the other, 18.5" H x 13" W x 9.5" DP, (the normal carry on size). I wouldn't think the trunk space in an '07 or '08 would be a lot different. If there's going to be two of you, you're gonna have a problem. Hope this helps. Jim...

Thanks for this Jim. Looks like I'm gonna have to stick with a more standard motor so I can get the luggage in. The missus will be dissapointed but there'll be more space for the shopping she'll be buying whilst in the US.
Thanks again for the help.

A Mustang is definitely not a tour bus.

I assume the seats don't fold down in the convertible? Otherwise you would be fine. If you really want to drive one, you can always put stuff in the back seat also, unless you have more than two people going to and from the airport.

The rear seats do not fold down in a convertible because the well the top folds into precludes this of being any use.

Hi guys,

Just got back to England fron the US and we took a gamble and went for the Mustang convertible. Great choice! We stayed in 9 different hotels so I did have to wrestle with the cases but it was well worth while. Visited SF, Yosemite, Vegas, Death Valley, Page, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Phoenix and LA and had a great time. The car added to the experience (and also the cost) and was well worth the gamble! Nobody warned me about how easy it is to lock your keys in the boot! Yes, I did that whilst at Mono Lake (Lee Vining). The girlfriend wsn't best pleased but I'll put it down to experience.
