Question 2005 Squeaky Top

I recently bought a 2005 GT Vert and when the top is down, there are is a fair amount of squeaking coming from the top. I tried using silicone spray on the pivots I could find, to no avail . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

does the sound persist the whole time you are driving? I own an 08 vert and mine makes a squeaking sound when its been in the sun for awhile but after a few mins of driving the squeak usually goes away.

This problem exists on countless 05+ verts, including mine. No one seems to have found a solution (and trust me, I have looked) other than to have the top disassembled and re-assembled, but I guarantee you that it is not work your time and money.

Do what I do and turn up the radio

Well, I lubed all of the pivot points that I could find with some Amsoil MP and that eliminated most of the squeeking for now. It happens with the top down and is pretty constant. I'm thinking a louder exhaust may help

hmmm its odd that its a common problem I've never noticed squeaking coming from the top only from the dash but that goes away. Even on my 2001 convertible I didn't have the issue. Maybe has something to do with the weather being in cali it doesn't get to drastic here. maybe the cold has something to do with it?

You're not alone. I got the squeaky syndrome too. I haven't found exactly what part is making the noise, but I it seems to be only coming from the right side when the top is down.

Lake, I know the problem. I've seen it(heard it) a few times. It is the vinyl on the convertible folded over against itself and making it squeak. That is why it doesn't squeak when the top is up.

I bet it doesn't happen to the guys who own 'Stangs that have a cloth top. They aren't vinyl so wouldn't squeak.

Scan, I wonder if you treated the vinyl, would that eliminate the squeak? And is it the inside vinyl that is doing it or the exterior? Something else to play with.

Lake,

It is the vinyl on the exterior rubbing against itself after you put the top down in the convertible well. Actually there isn't any vinyl on the underside on the convertible top cover. The underside is cloth.

Can treating it help? I don't know. Putting a thin layer of cloth or other material to keep them from rubbing would.
