A few years ago I had the convertible top replaced on my 93 Mustang LX 5.0. Since then I’ve spent some time fiddling around with various top adjustments because the fit around the front side windows has never been the same as before the replacement.
Right now when the top is up and windows closed I have a gap of a 1/8-1/4 inch between the front corner of the front windows and the top. On closer inspection I’ve noticed that the weather stripping that goes across the front and down the sides may be the culprit. Going down the sides above the windows the weather stripping sits inside metal retainer channels which themselves sit on top of another (base) metal channel. If I look across the front there is a similar metal retainer channel but not the underneath base channel. The net effect is that the sides are raised higher then across the front and as the weather stripping goes from sides to front, it dips down at the corners and continues that way across the front. This is what’s causing the gap right at the window corners.
My suspicion is that a base channel for the front exists but was not put back on when the top was replaced. But, I have not been able to find any documentation to support this.
Can anyone confirm this (and if true where I might find this front “base” piece) or have any other ideas why the gap exists?
