Convertible TechThis section is only for questions or information relating to a convertible. Questions about drivetrain modifications should still be posted in the engine specific sections.
Yes, Ford added a number of braces to the convertible, as all manufacturers do, to help increase the stiffness lost inherent in a convertible. The subframe connectors and that x-brace are the primary ones for our Mustang.
I have an 86 GT with connectors and i was wondering if they were factory because when i got my GT it had work done to it already so i am unsure if the are factory or aftermarket.
The 99-04 convertibles do have factory sfc's as others have stated, but they are too flimsy and too short to actually be effective. All they really do is stiffen up the floorpan a little, they don't actually connect the front and rear subframes of the car as the term "subframe connector" would actually suggest. Installing aftermarket sfc's like the ones MM makes will make a very noticeable improvement.
If I'm not mistaken, Mach's and Cobra's also had these same sfc's.
