Default Any quirks to watch out for with current converitbles?

Most likely I will have my new Mustang by the end of week. My current convertible is a Miata PRHT but I also have had an earlier Miata. Still, even the last soft top I had on a Miata was fabric and this Mustang uses vinyl.

So I was curious about how well it works, longevity, color retention, and such. Are there good after market options for current generation Mustangs? Say if I want to get a different color or material?

I dont see anything like the loads of issues at the Camaro forums... I think Ford made a good top.

Those issues on the Camaro forum as well as the recall notices my Aunt has on her brand new 45th special edition Camaro pretty much scared me off that car. Well that and the fit and finish of it.

Miata soft tops for the most part are vinyl, which company makes a clothe top?

Mazda, it depended on trim level. Grand Touring; think top of the food chain; had fabric tops. My 2008SE had a chocolate/dark brown leather interior and the top matched the color in cloth. My current 2008 Miata has a power retractable hard top.

The only other car I considered for a four seat convertible was the IS250 C from Lexus.

No real issues, though this is my first convertible. It works well, has a glass window with defrost.

The only negatives is that there is some wear at the pivot point near the back window where the top creases/folds the most.

This car is now 7 years old with a tan vinyl top, so it's getting close to replacement time. I will go with a black top next time, easier to clean.

Here is a question, as with my Miata the top will only be up in two cases.

1) parked during pollen season

2) it is raining or other wet stuff is falling from the sky.

So how well does the leather hold up under near full sun exposure while driving? Parked it will be garaged at home and work (parking deck). However I figure two hours a day minimum exposed during trips.

Do I need to step up the leather care?

I forgot, my NB did have a vinyl top but it spent so much time down that the inside of it actually faded :P
