Default RE: wax and buff on a black car?

Hey, I'm in Colorado too. I think the best way to wax a car (personal opinion) is by hand. I use a hand polishing pad and remove the wax with a good microfiber cloth.

Make sure you wash your car EXTREMELY WELL before waxing or polishing (this is the step most people screw up, and then they end up scratching the paint)

As you know if you drive your stang in the winter in Colorado you will have a million contaminants on your paint. I use a Mother's Clay bar to remove these impurities, it comes as a kit ($16). After I apply the clay bar and the cleaner wax from the kit I usually use Mequiars professional High Tech #27 Yellow Wax ($16 or so), and follow it up with Meguiars professional show car glaze (another $16 or so). There are a ton of polishes and waxes out there, it is all based on preference and availability of the product to you. Other good ones are Zaino, Zymol, Mother's etc.

If you really want to use an orbital go ahead, you should have no problems if you use it properly (no need to press hard on the paint.)

Hope that helps, if you have any more questions let me know.

I've used the NXT and it seems like if there is even one drop of water (like from the snake emblem dripping on the front bumper) then the wax just smears and it is impossible to remove the streaks. If you make sure the car is completely dry, the NXT works great and it is cheaper at about $6

Default RE: wax and buff on a black car?

I just used applicator pads and then took the wax off with a cheep skin mit. I buffed out my friends black civic for $40 bucks!!! and it didnt leave any swirls. If your gonna use a buffer, always keep the buffer moving never let it sit in one place or it'll burn the paint. And dont leave the wax on for too long. After you take the wax off with a buffer wipe it the rest off by hand. Thats the way I did it and I never get swirls. I only buffed my car out once since I got it. The best way is to do it by hand. You only really need to buff your car if its oxidized or its not as shiny as it used to.

After the car is fully cleaned I use an air compresser to blow out all cracks, moldings, lights, grill, jambs, ect... to help reduce water when waxing/
