Default Getting car detailed

I just popped my hood today and it's.......

DIRTY.

What do you guys use to clean the engine out? Any good products?

Also what should I expect to pay to have the car fully detailed, anyone have any rough estimates?

to clean just use a good All purpose cleaner and scrub brush.. just dont let any of the cleaner dry on or it will stain. i have always used gunk engine degreaser with good results. and to dress it and make it shine, see if you can find a can of CD-2 engine detailer. the stuff works wonders. its hard to find though, some auto parts stores carry it, but it can also be found online.

Prices to get the car detailed can vary...it depends on what you want...

If you take it to a car wash type place for about 50 - 100 or so all they do is wash inside and out...and do that wax as you dry crap...leaving the car clean but also leaving surface scratches.

You can also find someone local to do a really nice full detail ie: strip, clay, wax, polish. I was a member of a big Subaru forum and in there detailing section they had a few people with business out of their home that did AMAZING jobs....cars looked like glass with a deep polish wet look. But, you are gonna pay for it.

Depends on how anal you are. For me, I am going to do paint correction on my own car on my own time...

"Showroom Detail" at a local chain (which is extremely well run) includes steam cleaning engine, shampooing carpets, full hand wax. That runs $130.

Simple green under the hood. It works great.

I used Simple Green also on my engine and worked great. Then after that you can wipe it down to make it really shine.

There is a local shop here that charges $130 for a full detail. With the products out there I would only pay them to stem clean the carpet but I would rather just buy my own products for the exterior.

I detail cars on the side for a little extra cash. I detailed someones car a few weeks ago, spent about 5.5 hours on it (he was helping) otherwise it would of taken about 8 hours. Either way it was inside out, clay bar, swirl remover for some spots, polish, wax, also did inside as well. I said $160 because he was willing to help out. Here's after I did my car before I did it on his.

$100.00 - $130.00 is reasonable on a full detail at a business type set up where they have several people working on the car at once. An individual, doing all the work by him/herself though, would probably charge more b/c that's a helluva lot of work - but IMO, worth it if you don't want to do it yourself.

And Simple Green for under the hood... good stuff.
