Default Faded laser red paint. Anything that can be done?

On my 2002 gt the sun had faded my paint mostly in the quarter panel area to more of a pinkish color than the deep laser red color. The paint is still 100% gloss and perfectly smooth. I was jsut wondering if something can actually be done to restore the redness other than a repaint because overall the paint looks really great. The plastic bumpers are much more red than the rest of the car. Is it the clear coat itself or the paint that is faded? Thanks.

Your only fix is a re-paint... i also have a laser red car and its faded, but i can live with it for now... the only thing that made me love the color even more was giving it a clay bar, and a wax... otherwise, that's just something you have to live with with a color like laser red. its a 3 stage paint. it just happens to fade =/

Live with it or repaint. Mine looks like it has 3 different colors over the different pieces. I will probably repaint the sucker to a rio red later on.

You should see my 98.. Looks like it was parked underneath something and only half of it was exposed to sunlight.. Half of the car is faded and the other half is cherry red.

Unfourtionatly it is the paint that faded... There is one way to fix it, but you will probably need to repaint a clearcoat (DIY spray or professional). See if you can rent a Duel Action polisher and use some Meguiars SwirlX or equivilant to polish off the oxidization. Make sure to use a low cut/low abraisive polish and work slowly... The goal is to remove just enough paint to eliminate the top layer haze. Work slowly and carry a rag while you polish to check how much more you need to remove. This can be prety tricky and you do run a risk of burning your paint, but it is the only fix aside from repainting.

If you do repaint, make sure the shop uses quality paint so this doesn't happen again.
