The key before applying any Tire Dressing is to make sure your tires are clean from old dressing first. Something like SCG Pro APC 4:1 and a tire brush in conjunction with a hose will knock off any old dressing and prep the tire for new.

Surf City Garage has a few dressing choices but my favorite is the SCG Pro Tire Dressing and Conditioner. It's a water based dressing, it won't sling up your paint, it won't turn your tires brown after a couple days, doesn't attract dust, and it's dry to the touch after a few minutes. The best part about this dressing is if you like a more matte finish, you can dilute it down, and have that instead of full strength. It's like having two dressings in one bottle. This dressing is proven to work on all tires also.

Here it is at Full Strength: (FTR I used to be a Matte Finish Tire Guy...until now!)

It's a Trailblazer SuperSport. I have a Mustang detail write up on this forum where you can see it on that...I was looking more at the tire than the vehicle!

Whichever kind, use a gel so you don't spray the wheels and fenders down with the mist.
