Paint jobs...
Can you guys post piks of your painted ponies and price? I want to get my car painted possibly but im getting some crazy numbers out here. Stock color black job is around $2-$3k .. is that sound right?

$2-3k sounds fairly close... Realize that the money going into a paint job is mainly going to labor, paint isn't all that expensive, especially black paint. The labor in preparing the car for paint is what takes time and money.
Realize that to do it right they need to take off all the trim pieces including parts under the hood and even possibly in the trunk depending on the car.
If you want it to be a perfect paint job not only will all of that need to be taken off, but the windows, engine, transmission, and interior needs to be removed... but that is quite a bit of work that only the most dedicated will go through.
I hope that helps you understand the prices a little bit more.

Im well aware of the painting process and how theres a few things involved. I was just asking what some people pay. Plus i would never let a painter touch my tranny or engine. Maybe i should have specified. Car is black and i want it re done black which for me means i only need the outer body painted. The trunk under the hood and inner doors are nice still and since its ganna be same color there is no need to repaint unless i was dealing with a show car which in this case i am not.

That's about the same prices I got too, + or - $500 depending on the details. Which is why I tried painting it myself.
Biggest mistake I ever made lol, hence, my username. Have you ever felt a golf ball? That's the finish I clearcoated. Live and learn, next time I try this, it can't be any worse.
Back to your question, painting my car made me appreciate the time and skill needed to do a good job. I'm a fairly patient person, and took my time on body prep, it was the wrong paint and gun settings that screwed me. No amount of wet sanding would have saved it. If I had a nice looking car like yours, I'd think more about just spending the money if it really needs it. Good luck

A guy near me painted mine for 700. Looks pretty good. Not 100% perfect but honestly it looks pretty much like a factory paint job. It was with 1 coat of base ppg black and 2 coats of ppg clear if I'm not mistaken.
However this guy wasn't a legit business and was just a dude that did some painting.
