I have a 2001 mustang I haven't had a problem with it but now my passenger side window won't go down I did some simple tests and I know my motor is bad, but my question is can I just replace the motor? With out having to pull the regulator out? And if any body could give me some guided steps, I would really appreciate it

I believe there is a way to replace just the motor. I'm pretty sure you have to take the whole unit out as a whole. It's fairly simple though. I fixed a window issue on my brothers pontiac. I'm thinking its the same setup. Had to take the door panel off, Then roll the window down like half way and take out the two bolts that held the window to the regulator. Pull the window out (remember how it comes out and put it in the same way so you don't break it) Then the window/regulator is held in by like 6 bolts. Take them out and the whole unit should be able to slip out the door. Then take the motor off the regulator and replace if needed.

I have not done a Mustang, but on other Fords, I have never had to remove the window. Roll it up. Pull the door panel and locate the motor. Ford is good about leaving a dimple in the metal where a hole needs to be drilled so you can access the motor mount bolts. Drill, pull bolts, remove motor. Several motors may fit and the electrical plug may need to be changed on the new motor.

Drill holes? Sounds like improper installation to bypass time. Should not have to drill holes to replace something.

Well, so far, 93 Explorer, F 150s, full size Broncos....all need the hole drilled to access the bolts.This is according to all instructions I have ever seen. Right or wrong on the original plans (Ford left dimples as a guide for the holes), that is what it takes on the vehicles listed that I have replaced them on. Just not sure on the Mustang. Think what you want about improper but I have done the work.....according to the book.

Once the motor is out, the issue could be the gearing in the motor gear box. Sometimes, the three ***** inside the gear box break up. They can be replaced for a few dollars as opposed to maybe 50+ for a motor.

I have done it before awhile ago. Here is what I remember. No you do not have to drill holes. The motor and gearbox come as a assembly. Remove door panel.I supported the window glass so it would not guillotine my hand when I removed the motor. There are 3 bolts that hold the motor/gearbox in place. I had to loosen the nuts that hold the window regulator gear assembly in place. I loosened and pushed the studs into the door giving clearance to remove motor. Remove the 3 bolts holding the motor in place. You have to reach in through the rear hole in the door to remove it. It is mounted at the front of the door. You can not see it you have to do this all on feel. Hope this helps.
