Heat also promotes oxidation, and since most of these hood issues are begining UNDER the paint, water doesnt seem to be the cause, however, engine and radiator heat does.

It looks like a defect in the workmanship right there

Damn that sucks! I was fortunate that mine occurred under the hood out of site. Hope Ford fixes it for you!

If some mercury were to get on that exposed, oxidizing aluminum, a perforation is almost guaranteed; it's amazing how much of that stuff is in the atmosphere just waiting to attack exposed non-ferrous metals such as the hood on a Mustang.

I'm in California and had the same corrosion problem. I had to have the entire underside of the hood sanded, primed and painted. Corrosion began to come through the hood pin holes and bubble the paint.

My 06 GT did it 24K mile summer driven car never seen rain or snow spent its entire life in a heated garage in western Colorado. Part of the problem starts in the manufacture process of the aluminum its self and the prep for paint process at Ford.

Went to my dealership today with my 13' they are taking the car in Tuesday and redoing the hood. Warranty covers it.
