Default 5.0 vs 4.6

I know this has been asked but am trying to decide wehter or not I want a 94-95 GT 5.0 or a 96-97 GT 4.6.

I plant to just add a few bol t ons like intake and maybe exhaust.

I will also drag it occasionally.

Whats the pros/cons of each engine?

In my opinion I would go with the 5.0. 96 was the first year of the 4.6 so it is not the best year for that motor. Correct me if im wrong. Probably pick up a nice 94-95 for around 5-6 grand.

Yea, if you go with the 5.0 you'll have more/cheaper options for modding. Nothing wrong with the 4.6 but I just like the 5.0's.

Let me say something, and I dont want to offend anyone driving these cars but...

THE 1996 - 1998 MUSTANG GT'S WERE THE WORST MUSTANGS MADE SINCE THE MUSTANG II'S

Sorry for shouting

ummm... not really... Give the 4.6 the same time that the 5.0 has had and the 96-98's will have their day. Hell, an intake upgrade from livernois will put you at the same levels as a PI headswap w/ a better looking body (opinion of course)

I'd go with a 5.0 model as there are many more mods available and they are easier to work on than the overhead cam 4.6. also there is no replacement for displacement!

He also said 96-98's not the 4.6 in general. The post 98 4.6's were a lot better.

How is the reliability on the 5.0's compared to the 4.6?

stock vs stock, which one turns better times at the drag strip? And also, does the different engine cuase any difference in handling?

thanks for all the replies so far

True, but they can be had for a lot less $$$ than a newer GT, and you could spend the money saved on a PI head and intake swap and some other mods and walk all over the newer GT's (stock). I personally like the body style better, especially the '96-'98 Saleen models, than the newer body style. It's possible to come out way ahead with a '96-'98 GT for the same amount of money. Anyway, it's all about Mustangs though, and that's what's important.
