Hi,</P>


My 1998 Mustang has a vibration that occurs for two or three seconds when shifting under light acceleration at speeds of around 35-45 mph. It almost feels like the car is travelling over washboards.</P>


Any thoughts on what is causing it?</P>

The car doesn't have major clunking when going from reverse to a forward gear does it?

Nope. That part feels pretty normal.

You haven't had any work done on the drivetrain recently have you?

None. I found a service bulletin for mid-90s Mustangs (among other Fords) that described the symptoms perfectly, and it said degradation of the transmission fluid could cause it. I was just wondering if this is a known issue.

I guess it could be. Every auto mustang I have had got a trans swap quickly. I never was a big fan of the AOD. Not when I have a C4 laying around anyways.

Replace the tranny fluid. If this doesn't get rid of the problem, I would also look at the flex plate, torque converter set up. A bent flex plate/loose converter will cause this also. You don't want that coming apart at highway speeds.
