Default 500 HP on rear axle needed from small block

Hi,

I'm restoring a 67 Mustang Fastback and I'm looking for a small block engine that'll give 500 HP on the rear axle without supercharging.

I'd appreciate any good help.

Stroked to 408 cubes 351w is your best chance, I don't know that its possible with a 302 unless your running some crazy 10k rpm race motor that would overheat in 10 mins on the street and runs on methanol

Somebody's sig. would be perfect right now.......

Go buy a crate 460 that's 485hp and jus throw it in there and forget about it!

That's it... SET IT AND FORGET IT!

I agree a 460 with alum heads will idle nicely and be about trouble free if this isn't feasible any small block will work but not using a power adder on it will make it unfriendly to city driving....one thing is a roler cam is a MUST! and alum head to keep it cool!

mmm.. 460... yummy... you can get 600 hp from a 460 pretty easily and be very streetable... hell the edlebrock rpm kit from summit would get you to 500 hp and that would idle good

mmm... add a 250 shot of nitrous and you've got... well you know

Im just curious but why no supercharging neovovenice? Its very streetable and you could get that small block you wanted pumping out that 500hp. But I do agree with everyone else about the 460, or if you wanna spend some $$ go get the 5.0 Cammer crate motor from Ford Racing, throw on the ole long tubes and your good to go

you can do it with a 302 but you would have to def stroke it, a 351 would be the best for price

If you get a 460, you will be sorry!!!! It to heavy. Just get a 302 and built it and spend more money on it and more money.

If I was going to try and do that, I would start with a 700cfm carb. Edlebrock intake and alum heads. Most of you power gain is coming from your heads. How much gas and air can you get it. Do everything that can be done to them that you can. Get roll rockers and a roller cam. It has to be wild cam. Go with 13 to 1 pistions. You get a big hp gain from that. You will have to buy racing gas. Get a MSD. Alum flywheel. Ele. fuel pump and water pump. Get some racing alum rods. Steel crank. K&N air filter. And header. I sure I missed a lot but thats a start. Don't if you will get 500hp, but it will be fast and will do much better then the 460 on the turns. The Hp on a 289/302 is quick and you don't wait for them like a big block.

I just don't know anything about supercharging. I'm afraid it will make for a too nervous ride, with maybe lot's of mechanical maintenance. Next to that, would it be safe to supercharge a 351W

Garbage. If big blocks were such a bad idea then why does anyone even bother with them This is the crap that drives me insane about these forums.
