Rear question about '72 Sprint
Hi Everybody,
I do work for a dealership selling cars for them on eBay. I know next to nothing about Mustangs and we are currently running a '72 Sprint. A potential buyer emailed me a question and I don't know how to answer him. Here is what he is asking:
"Can you plese confirm that this has a 8.8 inch diff?, also can you give the ratio? Does this have Trac-loc?"
I know it is not a Trac-loc. The rear says "axle code 3" and the transmission says "X".
CAn anyone point me to a place where I might be able to find out what this stuff means?
Thanks,
John

RE: Rear question about '72 Sprint
ok, first off it won't have a 8.8, would more then likely have a 8 inch rear end, although someone might have added a 9in rear end, on the fords there is a tag if it has not been removed on one of the studs, that give the needed info, the lower set of #'s will tell the ratio, but usually you can't see the 1st # till you remove the tag, you will assume it will be a 2 something ratio with a auto trans, maybe like a 2.79 a e-z way to tell a 8 from a 9 in. is this, if you can get a socket straight in to all the lower bolts its a 8 in, the 9 in requires a use of a end wrench to remove the lower bolt
