Default 351M in Foxbody

I have a 2.3L 86 Mustang, I will shortly have access to a 351M (351/400) engine. Will it fit into my 86. If so what modifications will have to be made? Thanks

the 351m is a truck motor and nothing more. tons of torque and little power. ur better off with a cleve. but if ur bent on this motor than ur at least gonna need a new bellhousing, a new tranny for that matter, a new k member possibly and probably new motor mounts, new springs and probably more, like a cowl hood so it fits.

I'm in the slow process of putting a 351w in my 91 fox body lx. I also had the 2.3l. I say find a windsor or cleveland 351 for that bad boy. It will fit, and it will be more fun than a 5.0 once you work out the bugs. You may need a different engine crossmemberand a small list of other parts to make everything handle the newly aquired power.

A 351W into a Foxbody Stang should be a relatively easy install, as it is basically a kissing cousin of the 302W & Foxbodies came with 302's.

I'm not sure if the 351M has the same heritage(?)

And, sticking a 351C into a Foxbody would be a royal pain in the butt. That's a whole nuther engine entirely, with BIG cant valve heads etc.. They're great power makers, but would be a challenge to fit into a Fox

no the 351m stands for modified and is a derivative of the cleveland engine and is not considered a small block but a middle block. and the 351 cleve will drop right into a fox the only thing u need to change out is the bellhousing, otherwise the k member works and the motor mounts work.

I have a 357W in my 86 Fox you will need a new bellhousing and some brakets for P/S pump ECT. It is taller than a 302 so a cowl hood is a must and you will need a set of headers as well they is a pos tin this section or the 5.0 section on what is needed exactly to put a 351w in a fox . have fun doing it....... I did

a 351m has a big block tranny bolt pattern....some cleveland power heads and a mid lift cam and stroker kit would amaze some of you 351 w/c guy's...yes all in all a truck motor/boat anchor
