Default 4cyl Tachometer Problems

This is my first time here on this forum. I just purchased a 1987 Mustang LX 5 Spd and there is a problem with the tach. When i start the car it shoots up to 2500 RPM and stays there. Im not sure where the wiring is for the tach and i can't find anything on the net or my repair manual on how to fix this problem. Any ideas.?

Well ive been to the library and with just my luck they had every book in the world except for the one i needed. Can some one tell me how the tach hooks up to the motor or where.

How do you know the car doesn't have an idle problem and isn't really idling at 2500 RPM?
