RE: question about new fox body i bought
alright .... what cars did the 302 come out in that ford made ? I am trying to pinpoiint if i can do just a complete swap over or if i will need a lot of stuff to the mustang.
thanks again
edit -- I have gotten the new ignition setup in the mustang - now i got it running and it runs fairly good. a few questions ih ave are -
it bogs down when i put the gas pedal to the floor it feels like it wants to die.- and second is when it turns it makes a very strange clicking sound.
any ideas/ suggestions ?

RE: question about new fox body i bought
the engine is out of a grand marquis -- i am told that the engien will be the only part i am able ot use, anyone have any input on this? Is $400 for this grand marquis worth it ? the engine runs and is strong. the guy just doesnt want to part it out -- he wants to get rid of the entire car.

what year grand marquis? According to wikipedia, they were carb through 85, then SEFI from 86 up. $400 is the avg price for a EFI 302.. so getting the whoe car along will make for an easier swap.

RE: question about new fox body i bought
Unless the stang you just vbought is in pristine condition, I'd reccomend keeping it the 4cyl as it is, using it as a daily driver that gets great gas milage, and buying an original 5.0 mustang... it'll be much more worth it in the end. The entire suspension on the 4cyl cars was not as beefy as the 5.0's for one. But if you are planning on upgrading that later anyways, then, well, go ahead, but if you wanted just something cheap... better off getting an originally 5.0 car. ...but that's my 2 cents

RE: question about new fox body i bought
i got this mustang in hopes of doing the 5.0 swap, i already have 2 other vehicles for daily drivers - both are 4cylinders and get better gas mileage then this stang would get. i have a 90 celica which gets anywhere from 34-38mpg, and a 01 impreza which gets about 30-34mpg.
i am going to look at the car today and if all goes well i may pick it up tonight or tomorrow night.i believe its a mid 90s grand marquis, but not 100% on that.

If so, The swap will not be painless, but it wont require any custom work or anythign like that; all the parts you need to swap are readily available on ebay or the junkyard or autostore. If it is an early 90's marquis, thats the same engine that would have been in a mustang for the same year, only difference may be the cam. Since I'm not sure if the grand marquis was an HO engine, take a look at the firing order, if it's 13726548, its exactly the same computer and all that would be in a mustang. If the firing order is 15426378, then its got a different cam and computer which produces a little less power than the HO mustang. I believe it would be the HO though, since it was MAF by the 90's, and I don't think they made a non HO MAF 5.0. If you were anywhere near eastern VA, I have a 5.0 that got t-boned in the drivers door I'd sell ya the complete suspension off of, including whatever else you may need to do the conversion.
