429 truck motor into 71 mach 1 body?
I'm about to purchase a 1971 mustang mach 1 fastback that has a 1977 pickup truck motor in it.. it supposidly had an 429 in it to begin with.. is there any reason that this would not line up? The current owner said that there is something preventing him fromlineing upthe motor, however I have been told by a motorsports teacher of mine that commonly the two motors should have the same mounts.. help!!

RE: 429 truck motor into 71 mach 1 body?
Maybe he's using the truck oil pan? Depends on what wont line up. The mounts will be different between truck and car. The engine bolt patterm is the same, but where it mounts to the frame will be different.
Oh, if it wasnt an original 429 car.. they're not that common... then the frame mount can be changed to the 429 mount. Still should bolt right in with the right mounts and pan.

Depends on the engine from the '77 pickup. The '71-'73 Mustangs were designed around the 385 series big block, so any 429/460 will bolt right in with the right engine mounts and oil pan.

460 into a 1973 Mach 1
Hey guys, new to the site Im trying to put a 460 into a 1973 Mach 1 and seems the oilpan is hitting the crossmember before going all the down onto the mounts any advice.the 460 ,c6 is out of a lincoln and its a few inches longer from motor mounts to tranny mount.

wow, you really dug for this one. Welcome to the forums, tho.
Is the pan on the 460 for a Stang? I know you said it came out of Linc. Things get tight, so having the right app is going to be critical. Are you saying the tranny crossmember doesn't line up, either?
Keep it comin...

OK, so you have the right motor mounts for the Stang (71 same gen as 73). You will probably need an oil pan for the Stang app, though. The cavity in the middle of the Stang pan is shallower because of the crossmember, and that is what you're bumping when you try to lower to engine into the bay. I'm pretty sure there's no work-around for that (a la ball peen hammer).
As far as the tranny mount alignment goes, you're going to be in the same boat. You're going to need a 71-73 Mustang snout to put on the tail end of the C6 you have.

I took the oil pan off of the 460,reinstalled motor and trans, everything is looking better but seems I need a spacer between the motor mounts and crossmember to keep the starter from hitting steering linkage, about 1 inch or so.Do you have any suggestions where to find the right oil pan for this app
