Painting myself.
Is there anyway to paint a door in my standard garage?
I am just painting my door. I have a fox.
The door doesnt have to look perfect. I just want to match colors and make it look close for about 6 months. Then i am getting the whole car repainted.
Is there a spray can i can get for enterior paint?

Sure you can paint your door with a rattle can. Sand it well, then tape off the section you want painted, hit it first with some primer, then paint with a spray can. You should be able to get a pretty close matching paint from the automotive store by using your cars paint code which should be a labelon the door jam.
It ain't gonna be perfect but it should look better than what you started with so long as you don't rush things

Depending on the color it will either be way off or WAAAAAAAYYYYYY off. There is simply no way that you get a match with a rattle can. In order to match the paint needs to be blended and then the entire area cleared. Plus your just making more work for whoever paints the car down the road, all that rattle can paint will need to come off completely in order for "real" paint to be put on top of it.

yea, but you can also get a small bit of real paint inalike a 1/4 pint can from an auto store and use a cheap airbrush for like 30 bucks. get a wide nozzle for the brush an take your time. Ive done this before for a set of side skirts for my wifes Mazda 6 and it turned out fine.

Yea I know the rattle can paint won't be a perfect match for the existing cars paint, especially moreso if the car is old (it IS a Fox lol) and the factory paint is sun-faded.
But if the guy just put a "brown" door he got from the wreakers onto his "blue" car & wants a cheap way to make it look a bit nicer till a full paint job in the spring, then a rattle can is your buddy

i have to agree with grey stang, while its not going to be perfect it will look a lot better then a different colour entirely i had a bunch of paint chips when i got my fox (it's silver and the chips were showing a dark grey) i got the factory paint match duplicolor sanded, primed and sprayed, and its not perfect but its a lot better you cant tell from a quick glance or even if you are standing back and looking at the car you can tell when you get closer by the way the sun reflects of the paint and if you are looking at the spots directly you can see its a few shades off i guess im lucky my car is silver and not red or something that would make the difference jump out more

Just remember that ALL of that rattle can paint needs to come off before the re-paint, and it add cost to your repaint. I painted a car for a guy one time that was completely rattle can primered. I charged him an extra $500 for that added labor it took. This case might not be that extreme but it will add cost down the road.

If you have access to a good compressor and a spray gun it really isn't that hard to do. A couple of weeks ago I painted the hood and bumper cover on my daughters car that was wrecked and had different color parts put on it, the hood and bumper cover where red and I painted them white using my 33 gallon Crafstmancompressor andan ingersol rand HLVP spray gun. Itook the cars paint code to Oreilly's and they mixed me a pint of the white paint that I needed and sold me the reducer and the hardener to complete the job the right way. The brand of the paint itemswas Nason, it was fairly cheap and sprayed real nice, the car turned out very well fora home paint job
